Pogo Channel’s Rob takes time off to speak to the young readers of Young World during his visit to Coimbatore for “A Day with Rob”, a children’s arts and crafts workshop. Not a lot of people are familiar with Harun Robert. But the mention of Rob from Pogo’s Music. (M.A.D.) show could light you up, tingling with excitement. It has been almost 10 years since Rob burst through our television sets and into our homes with his artful and inventive show. Rob, as he is popularly known, says that he didn’t choose a career in art. It happened by accident.
But he has always been passionate about art. “Drawing is like cycling. It’s difficult at first, but once you find the balance, it becomes easier.” He describes himself as a laid-back, easy-going and fun-loving person. Since school, he would draw caricatures and cartoons.
His friends loved it, and encouraged him. “I always carry a sketch book with me wherever I go. I find drawing more gratifying than taking photographs. You can look at something, absorb the scene around you and put it on paper,” says Rob. “Through my travels, I explore new territories, and the possibilities are endless.
I want to try and learn new things. I get real joy when I create new things.
For me, the whole process of creating things is wonderful. I enjoy it.” M.A.D. And more After his stint at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Rob moved to Mumbai, where he did various projects for an animation studio. After doing a couple of animation packages, which generated a lot of excitement, Pogo channel showed interest in creating a show for kids. Would have almost had a different host.
After coming to know that he was required to be in front of the camera, Rob wasn’t really keen on going for it. Post his audition and several try-outs, he agreed to do the show if the channel gave him the creative freedom to do his own thing. After a couple of sessions of brainstorming, the show slowly took shape and the rest, as they say, is history! And that’s how M.A.D. (I can almost hear a collective sigh of relief from you!) Ever wondered what goes on inside Rob’s noodle?

What ideas form in his mind? How does he come up with these ideas and innovative techniques? “Sometimes we explore with new material and other times we take some existing or done-to-death ideas and give it a new twist with the training I have had,” says Rob. “In the show, we have repeated our ideas, but we have always given a fresh, new twist to it. Things can be made from the most ordinary stuff lying around your house.” He says that his favourite segment on M.A.D. Is The Big Picture, where he creates larger than life images and structures.
Rob is comfortable in his t-shirts, jeans, sneakers and of course, his headgear. Very rarely is he seen without one — it’s either a bandana, or a beret, or even a simple cap. “It’s to keep all my ideas from spilling over,” he jokes. He has had a thing for headgears since a long time. Even during his audition for Pogo, he had worn a bandana and that became the trademark look on his show! Went on air in 2004.
Ten years on and it’ s still going strong. Rob says that there’s a certain appeal to art that cannot be quashed. Cerberus coiled tubing software. We need scientists and doctors, but we also need artists. We need visionaries. If we follow the old school method of teaching, then we’ll never come up with new ideas. He doesn’t preach on the show. He doesn’t tell kids what to do.
He’d rather they do their own thing and learn something new from what he creates on the show. He says that there is enough pressure on kids.
“We promote alternate ways of learning or teaching and using everyday materials you find in your house. Half the materials we use on the show can be bought from the stationery store. And the rest we can find in our own homes, and it’s open to our imagination. Definitely, there’s a message on recycling,” says Rob. There is no hardcore message or advice that he would pass on. “Except respect your mum and dad.” The love and affection he receives from the children keeps him going.
“I never thought I’ll become a household name. When these kids come up to me, they talk to me like I am their best friend, even though I’m meeting them for the first time.
I can’t ask for anything more.” And Rob wouldn’t change that for anything else in the world. I never thought I’ll become a household name.
When kids come up to me, they talk to me like I am their best friend, even though I’m meeting them for the first time. I can’t ask for anything more.

Hi Guys, MY 150th BLOG POST for the Company which made my long time DREAM came true! HP INDIA It was a dream fulfilled for which I was trying since many years since my daughter started watching Pogo TV. She was a fan of MAD serial where a person named Rob comes and teaches us art and craft. I have been trying to win since the first time they flashed the SMS contest. I have done hundreds of SMS for my daughter to win goodies or similar stuff from them. But finally it was her own project that made all of this possible. It was her school project on which her mom and she worked for many days, buying stuff from the market, searching out the store for things to add to, garden etc for all the waste materials to make this beautiful home.
The whole concept and ideas were their's and I didn't contributed at all other than just buying once extra ice-cream sticks required to complete the gate making etc. I won the HP online project contest made by my kid and received this phone call from them.
The scheduled trip was to be made on 20 July 2013. It was the best birthday gift I could receive for my daughter. I really loved to send my daughter and her mom to Mumbai as some months their train tickets could not be confirmed and they had to return back to home. My wife had some college and school time friends living in Mumbai so she was really eager to go to Mumbai.
This trip really made that meeting with friends possible. The whole trip from Delhi to Mumbai and back was brilliantly scheduled by the HP Print team. They booked the hotels, transport to and fro from airport to hotel and back, to the location of the event with great precision and there was nothing to be taken tension for.
Here is my daughter sitting in the plane from Delhi with big dreams in her small eyes. It was her first domestic flight and really solved many of her thoughts on how airplanes fly and how do people get up and down the planes. My daughter with her goodies bag. An instance come to my mind, of the helpfulness of the HP team, my wife forgot her camera at the event and team checked the snaps inside the camera and called me.
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines unofficial patch german. I gave them my wife's number. It was around 415pm and they had to checkout from the hotel at at 530pm. They somehow ran to make this possible and handed over the camera just before they had to leave for the airport. It was a great effort on the end of HP India Print team and I really salute them for the same. It was a dream fulfilled for me as well as for my daughter to meet Rob.

I thank a lot for HP Print Art Ink Advantage and HP India for holding the competition on facebook page and really making this dream come true. My earlier HP Print Indiblogger meet, gurgaon coverage is the best post I have on my blog as it got the maximum page views. I really had great hopes that I will win the printer for this post but destiny has something other in mind. My first post for HP India Connected Music App made win the HP Sleekbook - I also won their HP Connected music event at Ambience Mall - In the end, I would just like to request to give a Ink Advantage printer may be at discount to the kids so that they continue on the path to create and learn amazing art & craft in their lives. I am really looking forward for a positive response on the same. Fingers crossed!!!
Is one the best pages where dreams do comes true for parents and kids alike. Thanks a lot once again to the HP India Team and Pogo TV for featuring my child in their programs. Awaiting the event's video to be posted on some channel to see. Till that time.keep dreaming.they will get fulfilled one day or the other.
